You Woke the Demon Inside Me

When demons descended, humans with awakened powers became demon hunters. The Mother of Demons, Nyx, could not be killed. Ethan Vale's parents, the legendary demon hunters Zoe Vale and Wayne Vale, sealed Nyx inside their baby son, in his left eye. Nyx's followers killed them for it. Ethan grew up with her inside him, wearing an eye patch that suppresses eighty percent of his power. At Demon Hunter Academy, everyone thinks he is powerless.

At the entrance test, the assessment crystal reacts to power levels. Ken, a student, tests B class. Ethan places his hand on the crystal. It turns dark red, a color not on the class chart, then overloads. The result is undetermined. Taylor Cross, the youngest son of the Cross family, calls Ethan a useless son and mocks his dead parents. Ethan warns him once.

At the training grounds, a nine-tailed fox demon, B class, is used as a trial. Taylor is defeated. Then Naomi is defeated. Ethan steps in and blocks a claw aimed at Naomi. His eye patch loosens. The fox slips into the seal and sees Nyx kneeling at Ethan's feet. Ethan orders it out. The fox, terrified, kneels. Taylor seizes the chance and kills it, then claims he killed the B class demon in one hit and that Ethan was only playing hero. Ken and Taylor bring up Ethan's connection to Miranda. They go to Principal Shane, who suspends Miranda Swan and expels Ethan.

At home, Naomi reads tarot for Ethan: the Tower reversed, Death upright, destruction then a new order, demon attacks getting worse. She tells him he is B class and they will protect him. Ethan decides they can never know that something more terrifying than the Mother of Demons is inside him.

Miranda resigns and takes full responsibility so Ethan can stay. Ethan plans to take low-level field missions to cover bills. Naomi Swan, Miranda's daughter and a B class hunter, refuses to let him go alone. Miranda joins them for the first few missions.

The mission is a trap. Taylor Cross lured them with a fake nest of weak toad demons. Instead, a harpy, a bloodthirsty S class demon, attacks. Miranda is wounded protecting Ethan and Naomi. Naomi tries to hold the harpy off. She fails. Ethan blasts the harpy to pieces.

Taylor arrives with Felix and Finn, twin demon hunters. He tells Naomi to kill Ethan, and he will let Naomi and her mother live. Naomi asks why he is trying to kill them when they are supposed to kill demons. Taylor says killing demons does nothing for him, killing losers like Ethan is what gets him off. He forces Naomi to choose between her mother and Ethan. Naomi pretends to agree, then turns on Taylor. The attack fails. Taylor binds her. She confesses her feelings to Ethan. Taylor chokes her unconscious. Ethan removes his eye patch and releases Nyx.
