The Villa Intruder

Olivia Vance never minded when her babysitter's daughter Skylar spent weekends at her Beverly Hills villa. Martha had worked for her family for twelve years, caring for Olivia's mother through her final illness and staying on after her death to keep the house in order. That history bought a lot of goodwill — enough that Olivia let the weekend visits slide without complaint. Then she came home one day to find the door code changed and a note waiting for her: "Freeloaders Keep Out." Skylar stood on the other side, telling her she had been mooching off their house. Martha, flustered and apologetic, begged Olivia not to expose the truth to her daughter, who believed her mother was a CEO. Olivia called the police. But standing there, watching Martha plead with tears in her eyes, she remembered the way Martha had knelt by her mother's hospital bed and sobbed harder than anyone when she passed. She let it go.

One month later, Skylar was back every weekend. At first it was Instagram photos, posing around the villa as if she owned it. Then it was the looks — pure contempt, as if Olivia were something dirty tracked onto the marble floors. Skylar sprayed disinfectant everywhere Olivia sat, tossed her used things straight into the trash. Martha deflected every concern: Skylar was just being careful, just worried about Olivia's health. Around the same time, things started disappearing. A bottle of Bordeaux. A set of antique silverware. An evening gown. Martha had an explanation for every loss — broken while cleaning, cracked and dangerous, lost at the dry cleaner. Olivia was too busy running her family's company to push back.

On Family Remembrance Day, after honoring her parents, Olivia drove to their old villa in Irvine — the house her mother had called the work of a lifetime, the one she had asked Olivia to take good care of. The gate that was always closed stood wide open. Music thumped from inside. The living room had been ransacked. Skylar sat on the sofa with her classmates, holding court like the lady of the house. When she spotted Olivia in the doorway, she didn't flinch. She called her a freeloader. A pathetic orphan. She told her friends Olivia had been mooching off her family's city house, and that her mother had bought this villa just to keep the peace. Martha, Skylar explained, was a CEO. Olivia was nothing.

Then Skylar's eyes landed on Olivia's necklace. She yanked it off her neck — hard enough to panic Olivia into begging. It was her mother's. The only thing she had left. Skylar grinned at the desperation on Olivia's face, then snapped the chain. When Olivia shoved her, Skylar turned to her friends and put a price on revenge: whoever made her happiest got a million dollars from her mom. They fell on Olivia without a second thought.

What Skylar didn't know was that Olivia had already made one call. While Skylar played owner inside a house that had never belonged to her, Olivia's legal team was on the way.
