The Savage King's Captive

Maya is lost in a primitive world ruled by strength and instinct. Brak, a strong hunter of the tribe, grabs her to breed. She stabs him with a pen. Kael—the Caveman King and strongest hunter of the Sun Tribe—takes her from him and carries her to his cave. He tells her to stay the night; outside means death.

Brak brings Mora, the tribal healer, to the cave. Brak says Maya practices dark magic and will curse them all. Mora demands Kael hand her over. Then Poppy's mother arrives with Poppy, who has collapsed after eating wild root from the forest. Mora says the child is gone. Maya says the root was eaten raw, then calls for water. She gives Poppy water herself. Poppy survives.

Maya asks Kael if he still wants to kill her. He clears everyone out. He carries her to the lake for a bath. His pants fall down. She tells him not to look, that they are even now. He calls her troublesome. Back in the cave, Kael gives her a piece of raw meat with blood. She refuses it.

Maya makes fire herself to cook meat. Sera, the former guardian of the sacred flame, accuses her of stealing fire, trying to burn Kael's cave, and killing the sacred flame. Maya used a blanket to put out the fire. They drag her out to sacrifice her. Maya says she made it from nothing and can do it again. Sera insists the flame is hers alone to tend and that a new female has no right to even look at it.

In the wilderness, Kael and Maya face rival tribes and wild beasts. The bond between them grows. The strongest bond may not be the one that chains her, but the one that protects her.
