The Dead Obey Her, the Living Fear Her

Raven was declared dead three years ago, swallowed by a swarm beyond the walls. She crawled back out with a twelve-year-old girl pulled from a field of corpses. Her name is Mira. Inside her sleeps the Prime Consciousness, a force that makes the dead kneel and holds the key to the beginning of the end.
Rain hammers an abandoned train where Raven hides with Mira, who burns with fever. Mira asks a question no child should have to ask: "If I turn into a monster, will you kill me?" Raven says no. Outside, the infected stop clawing at the metal. One by one, they kneel, and a pale light rises in Mira's eyes that does not belong to anything human. The Academy retrieval squad arrives not to save them, but to decide if they're worth processing. Before the soldiers breach the door, an infected hound tears through the roof. Raven grabs Mira and disappears.
At Black Tower Academy, cruelty wears a uniform. Raven hides Mira in a supply crate, but recruits find her and mock her as a burden. Raven floors one of them with a single strike to the throat. The dormitory settles disputes with fists, and Raven takes a bunk by force. But Mira keeps deteriorating. Black veins climb past her elbow. She whispers coordinates for disaster zones sealed a decade ago. When a purification screening threatens to expose her, Raven swaps the reagent tray and lets the accusation land on someone else. She passes a lethal survival trial, locked on a floor full of infected, and walks out as the only one left standing. During a wall breach, she steals a command flag and pulls lower-tier cadets out of the kill zone.
Lucien Vos, an Upper City inspector, circles her with questions he never finishes asking. Helena Graves enforces the rules like she was grown from them. And an old war hero named Elias Voss watches from above and says, “That is not a student. That is a commander.” He hands Raven a military pass into the restricted zone.
In the archives, Raven finds a file marked "Anomalous Juvenile M — Retrieval Priority S."Mira was never an accident. She has always been on someone's list. Now she sleepwalks and whispers a name she has never heard: Gideon. Meanwhile, someone has already built a copy of Raven—a perfect container named Echo, meant to replace her. But Echo starts feeling things she was never designed to feel, and the crack traces back to Mira.
Raven fights through enemies, humiliates a rival, and holds the wall when the swarm hits. But the victory is haunted. A black mark on her arm whispers it's not over. Deep in the ruins, another pair of white eyes opens.
