Seth, the legendary baron known as the living grim reaper for crushing the border rebellion, spends ten years in hiding searching for his son Luke. He returns to Bitter Creek disguised as a beggar. He finds Luke tortured and enslaved by Logan Drummond, the son of August Drummond, Bitter Creek's sheriff and the head of the mining syndicate.
Luke and his girlfriend Lily plan to buy a ranch and set a wedding date. Claire, Luke's ex-fiancée, now with Logan, mocks Luke's wages. Logan ties Luke to dynamite and threatens Lily.
Seth arrives. Logan insults him. Seth sends word to the Drummond estate. August comes, but Seth subdues him. Isabelle Drummond, Logan's mother, arrives with her men and threatens to kill Seth. August reveals Seth is the baron who granted him the mining rights. Isabelle ignores it.
Isabelle gives August one last chance to prove he deserves the Drummond name: kill Seth, and the Denver syndicate's funds will be injected tomorrow. August refuses. A telegram arrives from Denver: the syndicate's partners withdrew capital, silver stocks plummeted, transport wagons were intercepted, and the governor revoked the mining rights. Seth's words land: “From this second on the Drummond mining syndicate is officially bankrupt.”
Seth reveals his identity, crushes the syndicate, earns officer Madeline's loyalty, and finds a true home.
