Luna's Verdict-The Sacrificed Wolf Queen

At the Moon Oath Banquet, Alpha Cassian revokes his vow to Elara Moonveil before the entire pack. She has no scent, no wolf, no future Luna blood. For peace with the rival Eclipse Fang pack, Silver Crest offers its failed Luna as tribute. They lock her in an iron cage. Her sister Calista wears Elara's cloak and tells her not to make things uglier. Elara's reply cuts clean: "You are wearing my cloak and still sound naked."

The Silver Crest men present the caged Elara to Alpha Ronan and tell him she is his to break. Ronan kills the man, then opens the cage himself. He looks at the woman inside. She asks if he saves every tribute. He answers that Silver Crest did not send a tribute—they sent a verdict. Then her blood stirs his wolves. He drops to his knees.

Back at the Eclipse Fang camp, his men remind him she is Silver Crest, thrown away by Silver Crest. Ronan answers that thrown knives still cut. Elara replies: then hold me by the handle. He hands her a blade to cut the silver shackles from her arm before the poison reaches bone. She tells him to stay. If she faints, she wants someone dangerous in the room.

While treating her wounds, Ronan tells her that her blood commanded his wolves. He finds a mark on her shoulder belonging to the Lumera court. A bloodline thought dead. Luna R died before Elara was born, courts die. Blood waits, Elara answers. She learns Silver Crest announced she was devoured. Calista will be crowned Luna at next moonrise, wearing her sister's memory. Elara's response is dry: her sister could not carry her dress without stealing it. She uses a moon conjure to send a reply to Cassian: he should have checked the corpse.

Then word comes from the border. Three Silver Crest hunters left a body at the border stone—Elara's friend Lena, stripped of scent and name, turned into one of the moonless. Calista told her if she loved Elara, she should join her in death. Calista is also using Elara's blood on the Luna cloak, carrying the royal scent now, borrowed but convincing. Elara decides to return. Ronan warns her Silver Crest will cage her again. She answers: last time she entered as tribute, this time she enters as thief. She needs the cloak to expose Calista. Cassian finds her in the forest. He says she smells like Luna now. She tells him she always did—he was too busy smelling his ambition.
