Jett refuses to sign. Serena works Arthur from the other side. Richard Vanderbilt, Arthur's grandfather, decides to handle the divorce himself. He offers $500 million through a trust loophole, then raises it to $550 million. Jett counters with an independent valuation placing her 4% at exactly $1.5 billion and warns that open litigation will crash the stock by thirty percent. Richard's body fails, and an aide orders PR called before an ambulance.

Arthur returns with another $500 million settlement, claiming Richard authorized him to end it. Jett tells him it is not mercy but Richard trying to stop the bleeding before the quarterly earnings report. She destroys the check in front of him. The realization lands that federal court means discovery, and Jett has the evidence.

Serena spins a new story: Jett was a Russian oligarch's mistress before the wedding and used Vanderbilt accounts to launder dirty money. Arthur buys it. With the stock down another three percent, he wants Preston Pierce. Jett anticipates Arthur and Serena will try to hire Preston, so she is already parked on the dark coastal highway. She has reached the firm through the name Simon, not knowing Simon is actually Preston.
