Eighteen years ago, Ryan Houston was badly hurt and needed blood. Selinda Houston, the Houston matriarch, ordered the only match, three-year-old Luna, drained. Alison Houston, Ryan and Luna's mother, pleaded that Luna was only three and would die. Dr. Gregory Black, the family doctor, warned Luna was down to less than thirty percent of her blood volume. Selinda ordered her drained dry and dumped. Gray Evans, a janitor, found Luna barely breathing by the road and took her to a hospital. He adopted her and named her Vera.
Eighteen years later, Vera works at Houston Holdings. She accidentally crosses Ryan Houston, the heir, and spills coffee on him. She apologizes. Ryan does not let it go, tries to hit her, and she bites him. Selinda arrives and stares at Vera, seeing Luna. Alison says Ryan is the only child she has left, she has already lost Luna, and she cannot let anything happen to him. Ryan threatens to break Gray's leg. Vera kneels and apologizes. Ryan still claims his suit is worth three hundred thousand dollars and orders guards to beat them. Andrew Houston, the patriarch, says only that it cannot happen there. Alison tells them to get out and never set foot in Houston Holdings again.
At home, Gray tells Vera he is dying and that she is not his biological daughter. He found her by the road eighteen years ago with an expensive necklace and believed her birth parents were wealthy. He gives her the necklace and tells her to find where she came from. At the Houston house, the family mourns Luna. Ryan says he and Luna each had a necklace—his sun, hers moon—with their birthdays engraved. He says Luna's blood saved his life and he owes her his. Selinda still believes Luna is alive, and Ryan promises to send more people after the party. Vera reads the engraving on the necklace: 0613, June thirteenth. It is tomorrow.
At Ryan's party the next day, Vera is bound at a shooting range as a live target. Guests shoot and miss. Ryan takes the gun himself. Vera dodges. A sniper on the roof shoots her in the leg. Ryan moves to finish her. Alison sees Luna's necklace and shouts for him to stop. The truth that the Houstons abandoned and abused Luna is on the edge of coming out. Their regret comes too late; Vera refuses to forgive and leaves with Gray.
