Evelyn lets Victoria take Oliver and weds Duke Henry with her mind-reading. She still has to expose the murder plot and learn who Henry really is.

In their past life, Victoria burst into Evelyn's room with a knife and stabbed her, then pushed her out the window. Evelyn grabbed Victoria, and both sisters fell. Both woke up reborn on the day they are to choose their marriage partners.

Evelyn awakens the power to read minds. She hears Victoria's inner voice decide to snatch Oliver first—the "gentle man" Evelyn married in her past life. Victoria has also been reborn with her past-life memories. Their father hands Evelyn the Ashford agreement instead: she will marry Duke Henry.

Evelyn almost laughs. In her past life, Victoria married Henry first and was thrown out of his room every night, failed to produce an heir, and was expelled from the manor by Henry's mother Margaret. Evelyn married Oliver, a bastard with no inheritance rights, who treated her sweetly in public—until Henry died of poison, Oliver became heir, and Evelyn became lady of the manor. What Victoria never knew: Oliver's tenderness was a lie.

Evelyn accepts the duke. She sits beside Henry and tries to read his mind, but his thoughts are silent. Across from them, Oliver smiles at Victoria—and his inner voice calls her a pretty little thing. Evelyn shivers and grabs Henry's hand without thinking. His personality is cold; his hand is warm.

At the chapel, Oliver arrives early with a bouquet and lifts Victoria into the wedding car. Victoria orders the driver to stop so she can mock Evelyn for being left alone. When the vows are called, Henry is absent on trust-debt business. Evelyn speaks the vows on his behalf. The mocking guests fall silent, and Margaret gives her an approving glance. Victoria tries to trip her on the way to bow to Margaret, but misses, crashes to the floor, and is soaked in holy water in front of every guest.

That night Henry returns exhausted. While he showers, Evelyn makes the bed and brews him herbal tea, then curls up on the window bench. Henry finds her there and says, "You're more interesting than I thought. Deal." They agree to play the loving couple in public, with Evelyn managing the estate for operating rights. No feelings, no intimacy. The next morning, she wakes to Henry doing one-arm push-ups on the carpet, and they walk into the hallway together—straight into Victoria and Oliver.
