Leo Vane spent seven years believing he had no magic. Now he's married into the royal family, and his uncle's forces are already challenging the palace.
Leo Vane, heir to House Vane, was framed by his uncle Victor seven years ago and thrown into the abyss. Tia, his master, took him in and trained him on an island. For seven years he punched a stone every day, unable to break it, believing himself a manaless waste with no way to take revenge. When Tia tells him she has nothing more to teach and sends him away, his marriage pledge to the royal family is almost due. After he leaves, a divine turtle on Tia's island says his power surprises even it and that seven years of training nearly shattered its shell.
On his way, Leo stumbles into a fight between high-ranking shadow assassins and King Gareth of the Northern Territory. An assassin's shadow strike comes at him. It misses. The assassin's own spell appears to backfire. The assassins flee, and Gareth witnesses what looks like a peerless archmage saving his life. Leo insists he has no mana. Gareth, convinced this is a hidden master keeping a low profile, offers his daughter Elena's hand. Leo says he's already engaged and leaves.
At the palace, Leo presents the marriage contract from House Vane. Queen Matilda voids it. Princess Isabella calls him a manaless waste and moves to throw him out herself. Elena, the eldest princess, asks to speak with Leo and warns him that Victor will send high-ranking warriors to kill him once he knows Leo is back. Leo accepts a chest of treasure and agrees to cancel the engagement.
Gareth returns, angry that a poor boy dares ask for Elena after he thought he lost the archmage who saved him. At the hall, Isabella calls for Leo's execution. Gareth hits her. Matilda protests that Isabella did nothing wrong and asks why he hit her. Gareth recognizes Leo as the man who saved him, and declares Leo is Elena's husband and the most honored son-in-law of the Northern royal family. Isabella protests. Gareth offers Isabella to Leo as well. When Leo objects that he has no mana and isn't worthy of Elena, Gareth says Elena isn't good enough for him. He orders the royal wedding immediately. Anyone who objects is committing treason.
On the wedding night, Elena draws a line and tells Leo that if he crosses it, she will freeze his bones to dust. Then House Vane's Grand Elder Salazar storms the palace with Howard, a high-ranking warrior. They demand Red Leaf territory as a wager. Gareth accepts. Isabella warns that no one in the royal guard can match Howard. Gareth looks at Leo.
