Kane Miller, secretly the Shadow King, returned from a mission and headed to the Waldorf Astoria for his sister Evelyn's engagement party. He bought clothes off a janitor at the airport and arrived still looking like a janitor. Evelyn is the founder of the Miller Group and is engaged to Dorian Winston.

At the hotel, a child and his mother accused Kane of pushing the boy. Kane denied it. Evelyn arrived, recognized Kane as her brother, and had the guards remove them. Dorian ordered guards to take Kane to the garage and teach him respect. Kane fought them off.

Dorian called Marcus Orsini to invite him to the engagement banquet. Kane interrupted with his own name. Orsini heard the voice, then received a personal call from the Shadow King's private line, and agreed to come to the Waldorf immediately. The Winstons were thrilled.

After that call, Katherine and Lola confronted Kane at the hotel and mocked him, telling him to get out. They mentioned Marcus Orsini was coming.

The Winston family demanded $5 million from Kane to attend the engagement party. Evelyn tried to pay, but her company was short on cash. Privately, Dorian's mother told him she only agreed to the arrangement for Evelyn's resources; if Evelyn could not help, why bother marrying her. Rebecca arrived. Dorian admitted he was marrying Evelyn for her financial support but loved Rebecca. Rebecca claimed Evelyn's company would go bankrupt and offered her father's bailout if Dorian married her. The Winstons sided with Rebecca. Dorian called off the engagement and discarded Evelyn.

Kane comforted Evelyn and guaranteed the engagement party would not happen. The Winstons mocked him and called him insane, even joking that he thought he was the Shadow King. Evelyn wanted to leave, but Kane kept her there to watch.

Thomas and Tom arrived at the Waldorf. Thomas reacted with shock and recognized the Shadow King. The Winstons were about to discover that the janitor they insulted was the Shadow King.
