Derek's forbidden spell collapses against Dorian's level-one fireball. With Aster's protection ending, what will Dorian's level-one spell really do?
Dorian is the F-rank guildmaster of Aster, a crumbling guild left to him by his dead father. The alliance sees him as an apprentice who can only light lamps and start fires. His system reports total mana at plus Infinity, magic rank F, and available spells level one. Three mythic beasts—Frost Dragon, Nidhogg, and Fenrir—are bound to him and openly complain about serving as an ice bucket, an underground garbage handler, and a foot warmer.
During recruitment season, Maeve, the strongest recruit and only B-rank genius in the batch, chooses Aster instead of Valorian. She is a fallen prodigy whose original mana was more than ten thousand times stronger; her magic core is damaged, and she vows to make Lyra pay in blood once she recovers. Her mother, acting as her agent, wants her in Valorian under Derek, the A-rank son of Valorian's guildmaster. Maeve picks Aster to hide how fast she is recovering.
Derek first tries to trade a Manacore for Maeve, but she refuses and stands behind Dorian. Because Aster has a member, Derek cannot annex it cleanly, so he threatens to flatten the guild once the protection period ends in three days. At Aster, Dorian's system reveals that breaking past level one requires recruits with ice, fire, and lightning affinities. Maeve is the ice line.
Dorian gives Maeve a welcome gift tied to the Frost Dragon's heart scale. After Maeve sends her mother to the night market for Manacores, her mother contacts Derek. Derek gives her a low-grade shadow unicorn heart, claiming it as a free gift; the heart is linked to Derek's own, so if Maeve absorbs it, her level will be suppressed and she will have to obey him. Her mother agrees to bring Maeve back to Valorian.
Dorian then uses a whip holding the Frost Dragon's source ice mana to guide Maeve's mana flow. Maeve first mistakes the training for abuse, then recognizes the lost art of Mana lore guidance and realizes the whip is an Aster relic.
Derek arrives at Aster and attacks when he sees Dorian training Maeve. Maeve defends Dorian and refuses to leave. Derek casts Meteoric Flame Burst, an A-rank forbidden spell capable of destroying the territory. Dorian answers with a level-one Little Fireball. The forbidden spell is devoured, Derek's arm is vaporized, and a mountain peak is flattened.
Derek survives, but his father, the Valorian guildmaster, refuses to accept that a level-one loser with no followers did this. Valorian moves through the alliance high council, accusing Aster of illegally possessing and misusing a forbidden relic. The goal is to strip Aster's independence and force Dorian into the death arena. Aster's ten-year protection, left by Dorian's dead father, ends in three days.
