Ariel loses her baby and seven years to Eric Ashford's betrayal, then fakes her death. She returns from the sea to collect every debt.
Ariel, third princess of the deep sea, trades her tail and sacred scale to Morwenna, the deep sea witch, for legs to follow Eric Ashford. She keeps her voice. Every tear she sheds becomes a pearl for Morwenna. If she does not win Eric's kiss and marry him within seven days of coming ashore, she turns to foam. Eric has just divorced Vanessa Cole. Magnus Ashford, Eric's father, wants the ultimate mermaid's tear for the family name, and Eric marries Ariel for the pearl, not for love. Eric hates Ariel for taking Vanessa's place. Ariel quietly turns pearls into cash to back Eric until Magnus names him heir.
Seven years later, Ariel has lost her baby and her place in the house. Eric stays away. Gwen, the villa maid and Ariel's only trusted friend, is fired after the loss and leaves by daybreak. Before she goes, she points Ariel to a hidden compartment under the study rug. Eric's heart still belongs to Vanessa, his ex-wife and the founder of a jewelry brand.
Milo Ashford, Eric and Vanessa's six-year-old son, rejects Ariel and says he wants her to die. Ariel accuses Milo of pushing her down the stairs, which caused her to lose the baby. Eric refuses to believe her because Milo is only six.
Vanessa returns. She confronts Ariel, claims Eric would prefer her child, and uses Ariel's designs for her brand. During the design-draft confrontation, Vanessa knocks over a candle, burning the drawings and starting a fire. Vanessa accuses Ariel of trying to burn her and her child alive. Eric pulls Vanessa out first, then saves Ariel. At the hospital, Vanessa blames Ariel for the fire. The cameras are damaged, and the footage is gone. Eric keeps Ariel confined and calls it protection from the press.
Ariel stops producing pearls. "My tears won't turn into pearls anymore because I don't love you anymore." Morwenna gives her a potion that saves her legs, but the real cure is not ready. Milo has a seafood allergy. Ariel warns him, Vanessa dismisses it, and when Milo reacts, Vanessa blames Ariel. Vanessa presses Milo, and he names Ariel as the one who gave him the snack. There is no camera footage to check.
Eric arranges a paper divorce and sends Ariel to a seaside clinic by ship. He promises to marry her again after cleaning up Vanessa's PR mess. Eric and Vanessa plan a rehearsal that night and a wedding in three days. Vivian Ashford, Eric's mother and the group's founding pioneer, is not told, because Vivian was the one who tore Eric and Vanessa apart. Morwenna's cure arrives but only holds until the moon rises. Ariel must jump and not look back.
At the wedding rehearsal, Ariel arrives for her own funeral. The North Bay Ferry sinks in a freak storm. News confirms former Mrs. Ashford Ariel Tilleman was aboard, with no survivors found. Eric asks if she got on the ship because of him, then orders a search: bring her back alive or bring her body.
Ariel faked her death and returned to the sea. She reclaims her royal power and comes back with Adrian and her awakened mother-in-law—not for love, but to collect every debt.
