The Wolf in a Dog's Coat

Emily Hart bathes a black wolf by night and flirts with neighbor Hugo Blackwood by day, never guessing they are the same man. Hugo is already jealous of his own wolf form—and Emily is about to learn who has been at her window.
Emily Hart takes over the vet clinic her father left behind and brings her younger brother Jake to a remote mountain town. On a stormy night she finds an injured puppy in the road, bandages its leg, and notices the paw is far too large. The puppy is the wolf king's runaway sister. Emily names her Marshmallow. Jake hates dogs and clashes with her from the start.
That night, wolves surround the clinic. Their giant black leader bows to Emily, and the pack retreats into the forest. The next day Hugo Blackwood appears next door with dog food and offers to fix her porch light. After howling keeps Emily awake one night, Hugo arrives another morning with coffee.
Emily's suspicions build in pieces. Marshmallow is scared of wolves. Hugo knows exactly where Marshmallow likes to be scratched behind her left ear, and he shows no surprise when her deep wound heals too fast. Emily looks into the Blackwood family and the year 1903.
At night, the black wolf leader returns to the clinic window. Emily names him Chocolate, gives him lemon bubble baths, combs his fur, and talks to him about Hugo. The wolf whines as if disgusted, but his tail wags under the covers.
Emily treats Hugo as her neighbor and Chocolate as her nightly visitor. She does not know they are the same. Hugo, the 300-year-old Alpha, is jealous of his own wolf form as her attention splits between the man and the wolf.
