Arthur's golden dragon power awakens in the arena, exposing the slave as the true heir—can Damon hold the crown before Arthur reclaims Cecilia and the realm?
Arthur, the true heir of House Valerius, was swapped at birth and raised as a slave in the Dragon Crystal Mine. Damon, the false prince, lives as Duke Valerius's son and the future of the realm. Aurelia, the late Golden Queen, hid Arthur's scent from traitors. The Duke believes his only son lost his dragon core and wings in the battle that killed his wife. The Miner and the Mine Overseer keep Arthur buried in the pit, because if he rises, Damon's birthright is ruined and their secret is exposed.
When the Royal Arena opens with no bloodline limits, Arthur registers as number ninety-seven. Damon, son of Duke Valerius, also enters. At the registration district, Damon's beasts lose control. Cecilia, Lady of Star Blood and Damon's betrothed, sees a supreme dragon mark flash on Arthur's forehead and doubts her own mind. Damon notices Cecilia staring at a slave and demands the arena token. He attacks. Arthur's relic resonates. Duke Valerius arrives, moves to punish Arthur, and Arthur refuses to bow: “you can bend my bones but i will never bow my head to you.” The dragon mother's relic wakes. The Duke stops the fight and decrees the feud be settled at dawn in the arena: his heir against the slave.
Before the bout, Arthur's body regenerates, a trait tied to the royal dragon bloodline. Damon tries to make a relic resonate, fails, insists the power must be his, and promises to crush Arthur in the pit.
In the opening bout, Cecilia walks into the arena with Arthur. Damon fights without a blade, then with dragon magic. Arthur stands his ground and pushes Damon back. Damon casts the crimson rune. Arthur answers with golden dragonfire, the Dragon's right. The crowd calls it impossible, since only the royal bloodline wields that fire. Damon accuses Arthur of stealing his house's magic and suggests the black dragon taught him. Duke Valerius demands Arthur confess his bloodline.
The slave who was meant to die in the mines now stands in the arena with royal fire in front of Cecilia, Damon, and the Duke.
