Mia hides her real gender as her twin brother Leo and becomes soccer captain Ashton 's roommate. Ashton is falling for the boy he keeps insulting—and the truth is one locker-room door away.
Mia, captain of the women's soccer team, learns the school is moving the women's funding to the men's team. She goes looking for Chase, her boyfriend, and finds him with Chole, the head cheerleader. Chase breaks up with her and dismisses her team. Mia calls him a coward and orders him out of her sight.
Her twin brother Leo calls from the hospital with a broken leg from a car crash. He cannot report to the St. Adams special recruitment, and the spot will be voided. Mia takes his place. She cuts her hair, binds her chest, and poses as Leo.
At St. Adams, Mia enters the VIP locker room and meets Ashton Morrison, captain of the men's soccer team. He challenges the new forward to a one-on-one: score in three minutes or leave. Mia scores and keeps her place. The dormitory supervisor assigns Leo to room A01—Ashton's room, empty for two years because previous roommates were scared off.
The room's AC has been leaking all afternoon and the mattress is ruined. Ashton tells Leo to sleep on the floor. Mia does not ask. She claims half the room is hers by right, takes a pillow, and lies down beside him. He wakes with her holding him.
Later Ashton sees her in the bathroom wrapped in a towel. After that he stands under freezing water, unable to square why a guy has this effect on him. Teammates call Leo a sissy and grab his collar; Ashton intervenes and orders Leo to stay by his side. Mia requests an AC repair. Ashton cancels it, and Leo keeps sleeping in his bed. During training Ashton punishes the team with twenty-five laps. Rain starts, and Mia keeps running. Ashton follows.
