Willow calls Ryan daddy and DNA proves it. Grace is in prison, and Ryan still doesn't know why she left him six years ago.
Ryan Grant is captain of the Frost Bay Hawks and heir to the Grant family. During his press conference, a little girl named Willow runs up and calls him daddy. She carries a college photo of him. Ryan denies knowing her mother, calls her a liar, and sends her away.
Willow goes back to her mother Grace, who is in prison. Grace makes her promise never to mention her to Ryan. Ryan was a broke college kid when they met, and Grace believes their opponents are too powerful. Willow wants to go back and beg him to save her mother.
That night Ryan dreams of six years ago. At his hockey game, Grace ended things and threw his background in his face—her family owned one of the city's biggest companies, and he was a broke kid obsessed with hockey. She was with Bret Crane, heir to the Crane family. Ryan swore he would never forgive her.
His parents Edith and Henry arrive. They heard about Willow and want to meet their granddaughter. Marcus, Ryan's cousin and the Hawks' GM, has already run a DNA test with Willow's hair and Ryan's. Willow is Ryan's daughter.
The truth about six years ago surfaces. Grace's uncle Richard Pierce and his wife killed Grace's father, framed her, and took over the Pierce Group. Richard gave her a choice: marry Bret Crane, or Ryan would die. "It'd be a real tragedy if your little college sweetheart ended up dead on the ice." Grace chose Ryan's safety and broke up with him. Willow was born in prison.
Grace's relative Cassia and Richard's wife hunt Willow for a key to her grandfather's safe, which holds secret technology. They corner her and demand the key. Willow slips at the window. Ryan reaches her in time and pulls her back from the edge.
Richard's wife tells Ryan to take the child, but the key stays. When Ryan asks what key, she points at Willow's hand.
