The Hockey Captain's XXL Dream Girl

Brooke, a twenty-year-old pre-med student, can enter dreams by thinking of someone before sleep. Self-conscious about her body and unnoticed in real life, she uses the dreams to do things she would never dare. Wanting to confess to her crush Ethan, she chants his name 180 times—and wakes in campus bad boy Kane's bed instead. Kane pins her down and kisses her. She realizes a dream touch feels exactly like real life.

After that, Brooke keeps taking wrong turns into Kane's dreams, and they get used to the meetings. She learns every mole on his body and assumes Kane has no clue they share the same dreams—to him she is just a dream girl. Then Kane asks to meet in the real world. Brooke avoids thinking of him before bed for days. She is pre-med, Kane majors in sport science; she convinces herself he cannot find her.

Her advisor Professor Hayes arranges a summer internship as part-time medic for the school hockey team. Brooke accepts. In dreams she has already treated Kane's injuries—the fourth time, he arrived with a bruised cheekbone and a fresh gash and let her nag him about cleaning the wounds. She realized he was not that scary. After every game she saw him in dreams, body intact but everything else falling apart, and she started studying athlete care in her free time.

In the hockey club manager's office, Brooke hears Kane refuse a female medic. He cites his contract, the intern's lack of a degree, and the club's budget, then threatens to buy out the club if she stays. Then he turns, sees Brooke, and his voice shakes. Ethan steps in, calls her his neighbor's little sister, and puts an arm around her. Kane stares at Ethan's arm on Brooke's shoulder and his face darkens. The club manager turns to Kane and asks whether Brooke is staying.
