The Dragon God's Hidden Heir

Rain spends her days scrubbing floors at the Dragon Rider Academy, where the other students mock her as a broom girl and a charity case. Dragons flee the moment they catch her scent, as if looking at death itself. She has no idea why.

Everything changes when a blow to the nose sends blood onto an old dragon egg. The shell warms, something stirs inside, and Rain realizes the egg has chosen her. Mr Blackwood, the man who took her in off the street, panics. He stole that egg from the Abyss Ruins, and its bloodline rejected him. He warns Rain that her blood is now poisoning the hatchling, that it won't survive the week. He hands her his commander's badge and sends her to Duke Ashmore, the best dragon healer on the continent.

She finds the duke in the middle of an ambush. Garrus wants the command sigil and is ready to kill the duke to get it. Rain steps in with no plan. The sky turns on a dime. The egg cracks and burns, fighting for its life, and she begs Duke Ashmore to save it. But the attack forces them to fall back to the monument of Lord Augustus. Dragons cannot cross that line, but men can.

Cornered, Rain grabs Starfall, the legendary spear that supposedly weighs as much as a mountain. It lifts like a hollow piece of wood in her hands. She drives it through the attackers, and Garrus dies refusing to believe a street rat killed him. Duke Ashmore calls it a miracle. Lord Augustus chose her.

The duke gives Rain the holy spear as her own and declares she has a pure heart. His son Damian objects, offering her a hundred gold coins instead. The duke refuses. His decision is final. Damian will marry her.

That marriage is only the beginning of what Rain now carries. Malok and the Nightmare Dragon army still threaten the dragon courts, and Rain has a lost bloodline to claim. With Kane at her side, she will face that war and vow to end the ancient feud for good.
