The Don's Vanished Bride

Fiona Bennett's final bridal fitting becomes the moment she understands she has been erased. She steps out of the dressing room to find her sister Daphne straightening Nolan Hayes's bow tie. Nolan Hayes, the mafia Don feared throughout Boston's underworld, is Fiona's fiancé, yet when the makeup artist approaches Daphne with "right this way, bride," he says nothing to correct her. Their childhood friend Miles lifts his camera and takes shot after shot of Daphne and Nolan, never once including Fiona. Noticing Fiona hasn't moved, Nolan gently takes the bouquet from her hands and tells her to go choose invitation designs, then asks her to step aside because she's blocking the light. She moves into a corner without a word, picks up her bag, and pushes open the boutique door. The bell chimes. No one calls after her.

The group chat floods with photos of Nolan and Daphne, and later Daphne replaces the wedding song Fiona had chosen—their late parents' song—with something "lighter." Nolan agrees without hesitation. Back at her apartment, she peels off the countdown note, crushes it, and calls her landlord to move out immediately. While she packs, Nolan and Daphne walk in laughing. Daphne talks about moving into the Hayes estate's east wing after the wedding, demanding a bay window and pink curtains. Daphne declares Fiona won't mind; Nolan indulges her. Fiona stands in the living room, the question what if I do mind stuck in her throat, but the decision feels already made. She vanishes without a trace. Eight years later, she resurfaces, and a fatal crash instantly destroys every glimmer of a second chance.
