Alice is fired inside her own family's empire by Oliver and Brenda. Can she claim her billion-dollar inheritance before they destroy her?
Alice Shaw is a 26-year-old junior analyst at a New York branch of Vanderbilt Capital. She grew up in a Brooklyn group home and put herself through college. Her husband Oliver Miller was promoted to supervisor last month. He has divorce papers ready and demands she sign them, waiving all rights to their shared assets and savings.
On her way to sign, Alice pushes Samantha—the Vanderbilt Group's vice president—out of the way of a car and is hit instead. At the hospital, Samantha sees a heart-shaped birthmark on Alice's right forearm—identical to her sister Elena's missing baby. Samantha runs a background check. Alice is 26, an orphan. The timeline matches. Samantha brings a blood sample back and orders a rush DNA panel. The result is a 99.99% match.
Elena Vanderbilt has been searching for her daughter for 25 years. Samantha brings her the news in DC. Elena orders her jet and flies to New York. Samantha has already ordered a background check on Oliver.
Meanwhile, Oliver arrives at the hospital to force Alice to sign. Samantha confronts him. Alice refuses the agreement and tells Oliver she will take legal action for every cent that is rightfully hers. Oliver threatens to have her fired.
Brenda, the branch manager, calls Alice and fires her without cause. She admits she gave Oliver his promotion and that they have been sleeping together. She orders Alice to come to the office and finish her exit paperwork.
Elena's plane is on the way. Samantha tells her Alice is at the New York branch right now, filling out exit paperwork—fired inside Elena's own financial empire. Elena's response: "My flesh and blood is getting fired inside my own damn financial empire. Someone has a death wish."
