The Child Beneath the Pool Cover

Noah asks his father David to play. David is on his first day at the property, calls Noah's grandmother to collect the boy, sends Noah to wait by the door, and starts the automatic pool cover. Waiting by the door, Noah is chased by a dog, slips, and falls into the closing pool. His toy boat stays on the deck.

Black Marcus hears Noah's cries and sees him go under. By the time Marcus reaches the pool, the cover has closed. He tries to cut it open. David stops him, treating him as a rival applicant trying to damage the equipment and take the job he needs to pay off family debts. Marcus says a child is inside. David refuses to open the cover, even if his own son were down there.

Noah's grandmother arrives with bills and hears David get cut during the struggle. She backs David and demands compensation. Then she realizes she never picked Noah up. Marcus tells them their son could be under the cover.

They call Noah's smartwatch. A ringtone comes from under the pool cover. David dismisses it as his mother's phone. The grandmother starts recording Marcus. Marcus pulls the cover open a small gap. Only he sees a child's hand reach out before the cover closes again. David still refuses to risk the equipment.

Marcus runs to the tool room and opens the control.
