Grace Miller, a dock cleaner, finds a heavy bottle that connects her to Tristan Wycliffe, a 16th-century Royal Navy captain. Inside is a paper Tristan wrote about his voyage. Tristan's fleet set out under the king's order with five warships to find passage to the new world. A seven-headed siren attack leaves four ships lost. He and his crew drift for a month without food or water.
Grace opens a can of cola. It leaks, so she pours the cola into the bottle. It reaches Tristan. He tastes something sweet, bitter, and bubbling, treats it as a gift from God, and shares it with the children and the sick. When Grace fills the bottle with water, the water disappears from her side and appears for Tristan. He prays for water, and barrels fill. He writes a letter of gratitude. Grace reads the paper from the bottle and recognizes his name.
Grace sends canned food. Tristan's crew finds seamless metal vessels filled with meat and calls them food for gods. Tristan orders the crew to offer their most precious possessions in thanks. Grace receives 16th-century royal mint coins and sells them to an antique shop. The coins are worth more than the shop owner can cover.
Meanwhile, Grace's ex-boyfriend Ethan Walker demands repayment for three years of expenses, 850,000 dollars with interest. He has used her apartment as collateral for a loan and gives her three days to pay. The coins give Grace a way to answer Ethan's demand. She tells Tristan the treasures arrived and that she will protect everyone on his ship. Tristan calls her a goddess.
On the ship, the crew riots over food in the captain’s cabin and accuses Tristan of hoarding. Pirates surround the ship. Tristan prays for protection and dedicates the heart of the ocean to God. Grace asks Alexander Fletcher, an older man she rescued after he was shot, for weapons. He runs an international shipping business. She buys a whole container at market price, ten million dollars, and pays. The weapons arrive.
Tristan receives a pistol. Grace shows him how to hold it, aim, and pull the trigger. He calls it a divine artifact. She sends another batch of weapons with drawn instructions. Tristan sees the instructions and throws a smoke grenade. The episode ends with a group of people each holding a Gatling gun.
Later, Grace sends weapons, medicine, and even a modern ship. Love grows across time. The bottle shatters. Tristan trades his freedom for immortality, bound to the sea, and waits 500 years to see her again.
