F1 strategist Chloe spends six years with Liam, a driver for Vortex Racing. She repeatedly turns down Titan Racing to protect his pride, working behind the scenes for his team instead.

Her younger sister Mia books a twenty-five-hour flight to celebrate an online boyfriend's birthday. Chloe considers warning her, but before she can, Liam's voice comes through the phone. He scoffs that Mia is flying halfway across the world just to celebrate some guy's birthday and calls her love-sick. The night after Chloe sees Mia off at the airport, a photo appears on Mia's account: a man's back, a birthday caption. The scar on his neck and the ring on his hand match Liam's. Chloe sends the screenshot to him.

Liam calls, first denies the photo, then asks Chloe not to confront Mia. When Mia's voice cuts in, he calls Chloe an unimportant friend. Afterward, he texts that Mia feels guilty and wants him to stop bringing Chloe up around her. Mia posts two intertwined hands and announces a proposal. Chloe pulls off her engagement ring and drops it into the trash.

Liam calls again with excuses. Chloe asks when it started. Seven months ago. She ends it. "We're done."

That night Chloe calls her father and agrees to the family arrangement she had refused for years: marriage to Ethan, Titan Racing's star driver and major shareholder. Her conditions are a wedding this week and an immediate transfer to Titan. She moves into Ethan's apartment the same night.

Ethan leaves a note apologizing for missing her arrival and promising to pick her up for the marriage license. Chloe sees the marriage as a tool to destroy what Liam built. The next day, she opens the door expecting Ethan. Liam stands outside.
