Abandoned as an infant in the desert, Kha is raised by the Wielder, a mysterious mentor who trains him for eighteen years. When the training ends, the Wielder tells him, "I have nothing left to teach you." The only clue to his past is a token left by his family. He journeys to the Arena of Ra, where he saves Layla, daughter of Lord Horus. But when he presents the token seeking his family, his mother recognizes it instantly. His father stops her cold. He cannot acknowledge a son who couldn't even draw a bow at three — a weakness enemies could exploit to destroy the entire family. They turn him away.
Then Anubis, the god of death, arrives and challenges the House of Horus to a brutal clan duel. The stakes are savage: the losing side will have their right hands cut off and hung on the arena gate. Kha steps forward to fight for the very family that threw him away. His older brother Dahken mocks him in the arena — a beggar who's never touched a bow, a hobo whose voice has no place here. In the first round, Kha deliberately misses nearly every shot, letting the crowd laugh. Then the second round begins. Kha takes aim and releases five arrows at once. Five eye shots. Five kills. The arena falls completely silent. That single round crushes Anubis, shames the father who called him a disgrace, and seizes the arena. After the shot, he examines his token and finally recognizes the crest: the symbol of the House of Horus. The son they cast out to protect themselves was always meant to rule.
