In her past life, Isabella, the Belini heiress, refused Adrian's three-day plea to keep his brother's widow Vivian as his goomah. Vivian killed herself at their wedding, Adrian blamed Isabella, and after the marriage he threw her into the sea to the sharks. Isabella wakes in bed, unharmed, with Adrian still kneeling outside the Belini estate.
Reborn, Isabella faces the same scene. Vivian arrives in a black dress and kneels beside Adrian. Adrian helps her up and pleads with Isabella; Vivian then offers sterilization before joining the family so she will never threaten Isabella's place as wife. Isabella has deliberately sent for Teresa, Adrian's mother, who arrives and slaps Vivian and cites Alessandro's missing body, the memorial in seven days, and Adrian's existing fiancée. Isabella knows from her past life that Vivian already carried Adrian's child and that the three-month mourning period would expose the pregnancy.
Isabella turns the plea around: being only a goomah is beneath Vivian, so Adrian should marry her and give her his name. Sophia, Isabella's mother, objects that the engagement is not Isabella's alone to end. Isabella asks Vivian whether she can wait through the three-month mourning period; Vivian cries instead of answering. Adrian's answer is that the living still have to live. Isabella throws the engagement agreement to the ground and ends the engagement, leaving Adrian free to marry Vivian as wife or goomah.
Teresa invokes the Mafia commission's approval of the family alliance. Isabella uses the wording: the commission approved an alliance between families, not Adrian specifically. Since Vivian has given up her place as Alessandro's widow, Isabella will marry Alessandro instead, see to his memorial, and mourn him for three months as his wife. Teresa objects that Isabella is too kind and that Alessandro is dead; Isabella insists. The crowd turns on Vivian and praises Isabella. Teresa backs her, formally releases Vivian from Alessandro's marriage, and orders Adrian to kneel before his brother's memorial.
The commission sends bridal gifts. Seven days later, Isabella walks the wedding ceremony holding Alessandro's memorial portrait; Vivian's wedding to Adrian happens the same day but stays modest, with her family refusing wedding gifts. After the ceremony, Isabella changes into black mourning clothes and carries Alessandro's portrait toward the private chapel before Mafia elites and the public. A car speeds toward them. A man shouts from the vehicle: “Alessandro is alive—he's back.”
