Adrian Cross just put a leash on Julian and called it a contract. What happens when the most expensive thing he's ever owned refuses to stay caged?
Adrian Cross, president of Cross Group, is bored out of his mind on a rainy night when he spots a reckless rooftop boy and orders his team to take him alive. The kid nearly plunges off a ledge, and Adrian's men lock down the block and kill the traffic cams.
Before Adrian can reach him, Julian runs into debt collectors in an alley. They want ninety grand, up from sixty the week before. Julian mouths off, and the debt collectors move in.
Adrian arrives and stops it cold. The collectors recognize him. He tells them to pass a message to their boss: forty-eight hours to leave town or Adrian visits personally. Then he makes it clear nobody bleeds this kid but him and takes Julian home.
At the penthouse, Adrian discovers the ghost has real cat ears. He calls Julian the most expensive thing he's ever owned. When Julian wakes and panics, Adrian talks him off the ledge and puts a contract in front of him: Exclusive Head Designer, House of Cross, ten million a year. Julian protests he sews stolen scraps in a squat. Adrian has seen the Instagram under the fake name. "Nobody puts a rebar through your skull ever again," Adrian says.
Julian signs. He mutters that it's a ten-million-dollar prison and tries to run the next morning. The staff block him. Breakfast is pancakes. Adrian intercepts him.
