On the night before their wedding, Nolan takes a party dare: kiss the person on his right and propose. Blair Vale, his first love, is sitting there. He does it. Vera Moretti declares the wedding off. The room calls it a game. The ceremony still happens.

The next morning, Nolan gives Blair the passenger seat of the vintage car reserved for the bride and groom and tells Vera to take the bridesmaids' car. It was another dare. Vera remembers the pattern: midnight airport runs for Blair, savings emptied for Blair's shopping cart, Nolan leaving her hospital bedside to help Blair move. She steps out of the car in her wedding gown and ends the game.

Grandma Lucia, three days from high-risk heart bypass surgery, has come to give Vera away. She places Vera's hand in Nolan's. Nolan promises to take care of her for life. Blair had drawn a dare the night before; the penalty is Nolan carrying her for a full minute. The crowd picks it up. Vera stands alone on the platform, the ring still in her palm. The wedding finishes anyway.

Nolan leaves their wedding night to stay with Blair. Blair posts an Instagram story; Vera taps the heart and sets the phone down. The next morning the bouquet is returned ruined. The locket holding the only photo of Vera's late parents is missing. A group-chat video shows the bouquet passed around in another dare, landing with Blair, then tossed into a champagne bucket. Staff find the locket by the trash: glass shattered, her mother's face blurred, her father's photo cracked in two. There are no originals left; a fire after her parents died destroyed them. Nolan calls it just a photo. Vera stops fighting.

Grandma's surgery is moved up. Nolan promises to stay, then leaves to fill in for Blair at a brand event. Vera waits six hours alone and pays the outstanding hospital balance herself. The surgery goes well. Blair posts photos with Nolan in matching outfits, hand in hand under a floral arch. Vera texts the bookstore tenant in Sicily: no renewal. She will take her grandmother home.

Nolan tries to win her back and rebooks the venue. Then Trevor, part of Nolan and Blair's childhood circle, drops another video into the group chat. At Blair's birthday, Nolan has lost a dare and promised to grant the wish Blair made at eighteen. Blair produces a marriage license application already filled with their names. Nolan calls it paperwork and says Vera is the one he loves. He will marry Blair legally, then divorce and marry Vera. He goes through with it.

At midnight, Blair posts the marriage certificate. The next afternoon, Vera comes home for her last things. Nolan asks where she is going. Vera says: "Congratulations on your marriage, Nolan. We're done." Then she returns to Sicily with Grandma Lucia and rebuilds the old bookstore. Nolan realizes what he has lost, but his regret arrives too late.
