Rick is betrayed by Vanessa and sold as mine slave 417. With appraisal vision, can he expose the trafficking empire and reclaim his identity?
Rick is betrayed by his girlfriend Vanessa, who has one of his kidneys cut out and sells his freedom. He ends up in a mine as slave 417, where the only question is whether he can still swing a pickaxe.
At the mine, Rick steps out to use the bathroom and overhears two men: one hid a blue diamond, and the witnesses must be buried in the dead shafts before the shift change. He is caught and knocked out. When he wakes, a mysterious opal has given him the power to appraise value. He sees a fancy vivid blue diamond worth 2.4 million dollars in the rock and says the number out loud. The two men think the blow scrambled his brain and send him back to work.
He tests the ability on a watch, a pistol, and a sight; all correct. Then he overhears the same two men: 417 saw the blue diamond and cannot live. He knows he will not survive the night. Victoria, the mine's owner, is his only way out.
Victoria is under pressure from Damian, an opponent who wants the mine, the priority mining rights, and her board seat if she loses the next cut. Rick steps into an appraisal. An appraiser challenges him. Rick calls the cut wrong twice and is right twice. The appraiser loses the bet. Victoria revokes his license permanently.
Rick makes Victoria an offer: he wins her the mining rights, she gives him legal status and a pass out. If he loses, his life is hers. She accepts. For the final pick, Rick chooses a stone everyone calls junk. The first cuts come up empty. Damian calls him a fraud. Victoria warns that if the last half is empty, he dies right there. Rick adjusts the cutting angle by two millimeters. The stone opens on a fancy vivid blue diamond worth 9.8 million dollars. Victoria wins.
Rick stops Damian from leaving. He appraises a stolen blue diamond worth 2.4 million dollars in Damian's pocket. A search finds it. Rick corrects the men: "My name is not four one seven." Victoria grants him his freedom, then hires him to take down Vanessa and her people. Rick decides to use Victoria's power for now. He sees a major gold vein worth 8.6 billion dollars. The fight to expose the trafficking empire and reclaim his stolen body and identity is next.
