Noelle Alderwyn has been blamed for her parents' death since birth. Her brothers—Gideon, a homicide captain, Killian, a forensic pathologist, and Tristan, a criminal profiler—protect their adopted sister Octavia and treat Noelle as a liar.

Marco Vargas, a hired killer, abducts Noelle and uses her phone to call Gideon. Noelle begs for help on the line. Octavia supplies the story that Noelle is faking for attention. The brothers hang up. Marco kills her and dumps her body in the river.

Noelle returns as a ghost with three days and three wishes. The brothers still see a liar.

For the photo, Gideon refuses because her birth cost their parents. Octavia says there is no room on the couch, so Noelle stands behind them. The photo comes back without her in it.

For the meal, Octavia pushes her into the police station during work. The brothers see another interruption. Octavia presents a photo that makes Noelle look diseased; they lock her in the storage room. Someone sets the storage room on fire—gas cans and fuel traces are found. Gideon pulls her out. Killian notices her burn does not bleed like a living wound. Gideon accuses her of setting the fire and throws her out.

For the song, Octavia offers her cello. A string snaps, and the brothers blame Noelle. Gideon handcuffs her at home and leaves with the others for Octavia's competition.

The investigation moves without them noticing. Gideon's team pulls a Jane Doe from the river with a tattoo matching Noelle's. Octavia calls it a sticker. A pocket watch from the body holds a photo, but the water has blurred it past recognition. The morgue reports the corpse vanished and then returned.

Octavia wins the cello competition. The brothers celebrate around her. Noelle says her goodbye: she still loves them, she is going to see their parents, and she hopes they can forgive her and stop hating her. Then she sees her dead parents come for her. The station calls Gideon: the missing body is back, and the Jane Doe may be Noelle.
