Leif risks his life to bring Selene golden sap that could raise her from tier two to tier three. On their vow day, he presents it, certain he has proven his devotion. Selene looks at the sap, then at him, and asks why she would stay at the bottom with someone born tier one. Arthur, Queen Valkyrie's son and a tier-four demigod, stands beside her. Arthur kills Leif. They throw him off a cliff into Helheim, wanting him to suffer first—a great serpent down there has not eaten in years.

Leif hits the ground but does not die. A shrine lights up for the first time in five hundred years. Power pours out of him—tier four, tier five, still rising. He has awakened true god blood. The great serpent Hela finds him. Leif frees it, and Hela immediately bows, calling him master. Hela hands him a scythe. He takes it and names it the God Reaper. Hela transforms into a ring and binds itself to him, promising to stay at his side from now on.

He returns to the world above. His mentor Ben is already there, accusing Selene and Arthur of killing his student. Arthur calls it self-defense. Selene mocks the old shrine keeper and moves to kill him. Leif steps out of the shadows. Selene sneers that she gets to kill him again. Leif invokes the god trial, a duel to the death in three days, and promises to return everything they did to him in front of everyone. Arthur accepts. Selene offers to do the killing herself, and Leif asks if she would rather he die just so she can marry into the god clan with a clean name. After the confrontation, Leif tells Ben he will bring vengeance for him. Ben tells him not to do it.

Three days begin to tick down. Before long, Leif encounters a saintess named Elena in trouble. A frost wisp has cornered her and dosed her with lust dust, gloating that it will take her saintly power. She recognizes Leif as Ben's apprentice, the useless godborn from Midgard, and urges him to run. Leif kills the wisp with the God Reaper, then forces the lust dust from her body. When the drug overwhelms her and she begs him to touch her, he does.

Ben, unable to stay silent, challenges Selene and Prince Arthur. Selene, now boosted by the golden sap, cuts him down with ease. Leif arrives and tells her if she touches Ben again, she dies first. He sends Ben to rest, turns to Selene, and ends the fight so fast that onlookers are stunned. Arthur looks away, humiliated. He tells Selene she made him look weak. Leif's voice cuts in: if she made him look weak, maybe he is. Ben and Elena both beg Leif to stop—Arthur is Hyrule's strongest young demigod, tier four. Arthur walks toward Leif and says he will show him what a demigod can do.

Character Dynamics
Leif begins the story as a tier-one godborn, discarded by his fiancée Selene for Demigod Arthur. Killed and thrown into Helheim, he awakens his hidden true god blood, tames the serpent Hela, and claims the God-Slaying Scythe. His single driving force is revenge, channeled through the three-day god trial he demands from Arthur. Selene is a former tier-two goddess aspirant who betrays Leif for power, takes the golden sap he risked his life for, and aligns herself with Arthur to climb into the god clan. Arthur, the tier-four son of Queen Valkyrie, relies on his status and strength until Leif's return exposes cracks in his pride. Ben, Leif's elderly mentor, repeatedly puts his life on the line to defend his student, first by accusing the killers and later by issuing his own challenge. Hela, the great serpent of Helheim, becomes Leif's servant after being freed, then transforms into a ring spirit bound to him. Elena, a saintess Leif rescues from a frost wisp and lust dust, recognizes him as Ben's apprentice.
