Clara Bennett, a top graduate of an agent academy, goes to visit her sister Emma and watches Emma fall to her death. Emma's newborn disappears at the same time. Police rule the death a suicide caused by postpartum depression. The only lead points to Owen Rhodes, the wealthy man who might have been Emma's secret boyfriend.
Clara goes undercover as a nanny in Owen's home. She meets Riley, the baby, and learns Owen adopted him. To test whether Owen is Emma's boyfriend, Clara spills hot milk on his pants looking for a rose tattoo. A DNA test confirms Owen is not Riley's biological father and does not have the tattoo.
At headquarters, Clara discovers Owen is the new academy director and her direct superior. He reopens Emma's case as a murder linked to illegal sorcery business. The core suspect is Victor Valentine, the real owner of Moonlight Elite Fertility Center, tied to twelve cases of missing or dead young women and a nationwide black-market surrogacy and trafficking network.
Clara is assigned to Owen's team. Their working partnership turns personal. Owen kisses Clara in front of Martha, the housekeeper, and declares her the lady of the house. He then asks Clara to attend a private banquet as his wife to get close to Victor.
