Dustin Ryland had a business in the States until his girlfriend Caroline and trusted friend Eric took it, sold one of his kidneys, and left him digging in a South American gem mine. When Mr. Gabe knocks him down, Dustin's head hits stone—and his eyes change: he can see exactly what everything is worth.

That ability lands him in the middle of a mine bet. Andrea Mendoza, the Mendoza cartel's gem queen, is betting a mine on uncut stones against Riego. Dustin reads stone after stone correctly, including one that appraiser Rupert stakes his life on. When he bargains with Andrea—he wins her the last pick, she gets him out alive—the final stone yields an A-grade blue worth at least half a million, and Andrea takes Riego's northern mine.

That win earns Dustin a bigger task. Andrea wants a top-grade rough for her grandfather Hector Mendoza's birthday, with a ticket back to the States if he delivers. Dustin spots an untouched gold mine, takes a dirt sample, and claims ten billion dollars in gold sits under the ground. At the gem market he picks an ordinary-looking rough he values at five million.

At Hector's birthday, Luca, a rival for the family seat, presents a fifteenth-century Italian vase worth ten million. Hector cuts Andrea's rough himself; it is solid rock. The room turns on Andrea. Dustin insists the stone was not empty when he chose it and that someone switched it before the party. Hector gives him five minutes.

Dustin turns the failure into a prank and produces a bottle of dirt as Andrea's true gift. The room calls it dirt. Dustin holds it up: “But what I'm holding is worth more than every gift in this room combined.” The traitors who sold him are still out there, and Dustin now has the eyes to price what they owe.
