Rosetta Romano, queenpin of the Phoenix Syndicate, dies when a student falls from an upper floor and lands on her. She wakes in the student’s hospital bed, in Teresa Rossi’s body. Olivia Rossi, the foster daughter the Rossi family favors, pushed Teresa from the rooftop; the family accuses Teresa of pushing Olivia over a balcony instead. Teresa’s memories show the abuse and Olivia’s framing. Rosetta takes over and decides to settle the girl’s debt.
Phoenix enforcers Marco, Vito, and Angela come to the hospital for Teresa. The Rossi family disowns her and sends them to room 101. Teresa floors the three, then proves she is their boss with private details only Rosetta knew. “I am Rosetta Romano.” Marco and the enforcers accept her. She refuses to return as a crime lord; she wants high school, then college.
At Kensington Prep, Teresa arrives transformed. Olivia fails to recognize her. Jessica, Olivia’s minion, comes at her with scissors and loses a few strands; Olivia follows with a pregnancy-test taunt, and Teresa sends Olivia to the clinic with a broken arm.
In class, a pop quiz exposes how far behind Teresa is, and Miranda Reed, the math teacher, checks the paper. Later Chad Prescott, Olivia’s simp and the school bully, corners Teresa in the girls’ room with other athletes. Teresa beats them. Olivia brings Miranda to catch Teresa in a lie; Miranda sees the injured athletes and bloody Teresa, refuses the story, and confronts Chad and Olivia. Stellan Sterling, heir to the Sterling empire, backs Teresa with what he heard in the hall. Miranda sends the bullies to the disciplinary committee.
At the meeting, Chad’s parents Margot and Harrison Prescott pressure Principal Brown, who depends on their donations; Brown notes the Prescotts are tied to the Phoenix Syndicate. Teresa plays audio of Chad threatening her. The Prescotts call it forged. Stellan names his father as head of the board of trustees and repeats what he heard. Harrison demands an apology or expulsion and a university blacklist. The Rossi parents side with the Prescotts. Teresa refuses to kneel.
The Rossi family’s rejection and the Prescotts’ demand leave Teresa’s school life tied to the Phoenix Syndicate she meant to leave behind.
