His Regret Began the Day I Took Off

Nadia Irvine was a top pilot who gave up the cockpit for her husband Gavin and became a housewife. On their seventh anniversary, she was on his flight. She heard Gavin tell Bianca Cyrus, a flight attendant, that he loved her and that Nadia was useless. The crash killed everyone onboard. Nadia died hearing it.

She woke in 2025, one year before the crash. She called Captain Duncan Hale, her flight instructor, to get back in the cockpit. She wanted her ATP and to make captain. He doubted she could fly again. She pointed to her top student record. He put in her application. She would be away for a year of training. Wesley Knight, the airline heir, walked into Duncan's office and said he was applying too, because there was someone he needed to protect.

Gavin and Bianca were still in the house. Bianca played sweet with Toby, Nadia and Gavin's son. Toby preferred Bianca. Nadia stopped pushing Toby. She let Bianca take him out, cancelled his lessons, and even invited Bianca to stay the night. Bianca drugged Nadia to sleep with Gavin, but Nadia stayed awake beside them, listening. She called them sick in her mind and did not fight. She stepped back.

Nadia remembered giving up her command track slot so Gavin could have it. She was top of the class, but she withdrew from consideration. Now she was training to outfly him.

Nadia was accepted. Before leaving, she looked at a family photo, left her phone and papers on the coffee table, and said the home was already gone. She wanted none of it. Gavin brought her flowers; she said she was allergic to pollen and that roses were never her favorite. She gave Toby a chance to choose her, but he chose Bianca. She prepared to leave for training.

Now she trains to outfly Gavin and take back the sky.
