Harlan Rothwell, founder of the Rothwell Group, is dying. His third wish binds Evren, a powerful genie, to marry his daughter Layla, protect her, and love her for six years. After that, Evren is free. Harlan's will gives Layla control of the group only if she marries Evren; otherwise the board takes over. Layla refuses at first, then agrees to keep her father's life work out of the board's hands.

The Sanders Consortium in New York rejects Rothwell's teams. Zoe Sanders, chairwoman of the Sanders Consortium, watches her father's condition worsen until Evren appears and offers to save him. Zoe asks him to try. Evren heals her father after her father agrees to grant the exclusive annual rights to the West Coast gold supply route to Layla Rothwell. Finn Sanders, Zoe's brother, and Zoe owe him. Layla dismisses Evren's claim that the deal is handled. Dorian Kessler, head of the overseas division and the man Layla almost got engaged to, returns. Layla welcomes him home, wears his necklace, and believes he secured the signed contract and investment commitment. Evelyn, Layla's mother, pushes Layla to ask Dorian for help.

Dorian grabs Layla; Evren hits him. Layla insists Dorian was not doing anything, blames Evren, tends Dorian's bruise, and measures Dorian's one-day contribution as greater than Evren’s six years. At Evelyn's birthday gala, Evren gives the Heart of the Desert. It is mocked as cheap red glass. Dorian gives an emerald and wins Evelyn's praise. A chandelier falls. Evren pushes Layla clear and is pinned under the debris. Dorian runs in to keep Evren from playing the hero and only cuts his hand. Layla only asks about Dorian. She orders the doctor: "Treat Dorian first."

Zoe Sanders learns the man who saved her father is Evren, Layla's husband. Every major Rothwell success over six years traces back to him while Layla treated him as a servant. Zoe decides to attend the gala herself. The six-year covenant ends. Evren walks away, and Layla is left to discover that everything she had was built by the husband she despised.
