Marcus, Rome's God of War, is betrayed by the emperor and a wizard. His son Lucius is murdered before him, and he is thrown from a cliff. He survives, only to wake in chains, sold into the gladiator pits.
In the household of Titus and Luna, the nameless slave endures mockery. Forced to spar with Titus's arrogant son Felix, Marcus disarms him with humiliating ease. Titus begins to suspect the slave is no ordinary man.
At the arena, Felix falls to a beast-warrior. Marcus intervenes, knocking the opponent aside. Felix scoffs at the rescue. The high priest declares Titus's house defeated and demands Luna as payment. Desperate, Titus throws Marcus into the ring.
The priest unleashes Cerberus, a hellhound fed living men for a decade. The beast overpowers Marcus, and the crowd writes him off. The priest orders him ripped apart. As Luna pleads and Titus yields, a divine force erupts from Marcus. He strikes down Cerberus bare-handed.
That brutal victory restores his strength. His path leads to destroying the false God of War, executing traitors, overthrowing the tyrant, and marrying Luna—the woman who saved him.
