James Crawford, CEO of Lumiere Group, hides his billions. At a fashion show, he commits 2.3 billion dollars to acquire Lumiere so his wife Vivian Crawford can live her design dream. The company offers her the chief designer position under the cover of an open competition. James orders that his name and the acquisition stay out of it, and plans to announce her as the new CEO at a Los Angeles press conference.
Vivian is involved with Derek, a spa therapist. Margaret Wells, CCO of Lumiere Group, calls Vivian with the chief designer offer and a flight to Europe to sign. Vivian shares the news with Derek, plans to stop needing James's money, and decides to end the marriage.
James brings Vivian's parents, George and Martha, to Los Angeles without revealing his real identity. At the spa, Derek claims Vivian as his woman and says everything she has belongs to him, including the spa. He has George and Martha locked in a heat cabin.
James calls Vivian. On the line, he hears her call Derek her only man. James ends the marriage on the spot: "consider yourself single, we are officially done."
Vivian returns from Europe and cannot reach James. Derek downplays it. James prepares for the acquisition press conference, where every illusion shatters.
