Don's Daughter Doesn't Need a New Mother

Loretta Carboni is the Don's daughter, but she has stayed out of sight long enough that no one recognizes her. She returns home with her daughter Elsa, who wants to buy a gift for Grandpa Paulo. The Don is waiting. His mistress, Marie Mosley, has other plans. She picks up the Heart of the Earth from a jewelry store, a gem meant as a gift for Loretta. She calls it a waste.

Elsa and Loretta walk into the same store. Loretta steps away for a call. Elsa stays near the counter. Marie accuses the girl of bumping into her and smashing the gem. Elsa says she never touched her. Marie calls for a bat.

Loretta steps in and shoves Marie away from her daughter. Marie calls for help. Her brother Giovani arrives. He orders his men to take Loretta down. She fights, but they overwhelm her. Elsa begs them to stop hurting her mother. Marie tells them to lock the girl up instead. Elsa is claustrophobic.

Loretta says she is Loretta Carboni. Nobody believes her. They say Paolo would never let his daughter go anywhere without protection. Marie laughs. Giovani drags Elsa toward a room. Loretta screams for him to let her go. Marie says she will let Elsa go if Loretta gets on her knees and begs. Loretta does it. Marie breaks her word, and Elsa is locked in anyway.

Elsa starts to panic inside the locked room. Loretta screams through the door. Marie and Giovani do not care. Giovani goes to get needles, saying he will sew Loretta's mouth shut. The store owner watches and does nothing, too afraid of the Don's mistress.

Loretta tells Marie she will never become Donna Carboni. Giovani orders her beaten again. Elsa keeps calling for Grandpa Paulo. Then the Don's car arrives outside.
