Jace Donnelly has a wife who hides who she really is. Riley's family owns the Falcons, and her father does not approve of Jace, so she has kept her identity secret—and she is pregnant, planning to tell him that night.
Cassandra Collins, the team doctor, has a photo of Riley hugging her brother Grant. She uses it. At Jace's MVP press conference she stands close; after it, she puts the photo in front of him and takes the front seat on the ride home. Jace sides with her when Riley objects. In the crash, he carries Cassandra out first, and a stranger pulls Riley from the car.
At the hospital, Riley learns the baby is initially fine. Cassandra threatens to take Jace, then fakes a fall when he appears. Jace believes her, knocks Riley down, and leaves with Cassandra. Riley bleeds; the baby is gone. Jace questions whether the baby was his. Riley slaps him. Cassandra produces the photo as proof of cheating, and Riley calls the marriage a joke. Jace leaves with Cassandra.
The next morning Vivian demands breakfast and insults Riley; Jace arrives with Cassandra. Riley hands him divorce papers: “I'm divorcing you.” Jace calls her a housewife and follows her out with cash; Riley throws the money into the air. Grant arrives with a motorcade, and Cassandra recognizes him as Grant Monroe. Riley leaves with her brother.
Jace still does not know Riley is a hockey heiress and brilliant coach. As she rebuilds her career and grows closer to rising star Ted Howard, Jace realizes she was the one who always stood by him—and the secret behind his success. It is already too late.
