Belle Mercier treats reproductive disorders in male beastfolk, a job her family calls shameful. Her grandmother, Grandmere Mercier, forces her into a blind date and orders her not to disgrace the Mercier name. Belle agrees, planning to wreck it.
Her patient is Leon Leopold, Crown Prince of the Lion Clan. He cannot hold human form steadily, his lion ears appear under stress, and his condition points to infertility. Belle examines him, names her price—eighty thousand gold pieces for treatment and secrecy—and Leon refuses a male physician for follow-up.
At Cloudhest Palace, the blind date puts Belle across from Leon. He recognizes her. Instead of rejecting the healer who humiliated him, Leon’s response lands as the match’s turning point: “I was utterly enchanted by Belle the moment I laid eyes on her.” The betrothal is settled and proclaimed. Belle plays along.
Their contract marriage keeps them in separate rooms on the same floor, a loving couple in public, respectful and bounded in private. Belle signs. Grandmere is satisfied. Belle keeps her healing sanctum, while Leon has her daily patient count logged and reported to him. The arrangement gives Belle freedom and gives Leon a claim.
Alaric, Belle’s senior fellow and trusted academic partner over the past three years, returns. Their reunion at Lionheart Hall is cut short when Leon appears and takes Belle back to the castle. The argument that follows makes the contract’s limits clear: once she wears his ring, her personal life is no longer solely her own. Belle threatens to expose his condition. She loses control first.
At a family banquet, Silvana Serpentine, a noble lady of the Serpent Clan, mocks Belle’s hands-on examinations. Leon defends her as his betrothed and the future princess of the Lion Clan. When Lord Thorn, Leon’s third uncle, collapses from cardiac arrest, Belle strikes above his sternum and revives him. Leon’s grandfather, King Leonidas Leopold, rewards her with Starlight Manor, the estate built by the founding Lion King for his queen.
At Starlight Manor, Leon reminds Belle that the estate remains under Leopold name until transfer, then forbids the west wing. Belle hears sounds from the forbidden room and finds Leon in a beast-power rampage. His life rose is losing petals; when the last falls, he will be trapped in lion form forever. Belle promises a one-month treatment to stabilize his beast power and reverse the transformation. Leon gives her the library and apothecary.
Later, fully awake, Leon kisses Belle. Alaric invites her to the Saint Hypatius Healing Academy centennial. Belle calls the engagement a strategic alliance. Alaric offers her a place to turn if she ever feels trapped. Leon requests her company for lunch.
