Daisy Miller arrives in New York to earn money for her father's kidney surgery. She sees a man collapse and helps him. The man is Julian Sterling's grandfather. He wakes and chooses Daisy for his grandson Julian, a cold workaholic CEO.
Julian arrives and assumes Daisy is running a street scam. He offers a check to make her leave. His grandfather insists. Julian needs 15% voting shares for an IPO. Grandfather offers them if Julian marries Daisy and keeps it private for one year. Daisy's mother calls: a kidney donor is found, surgery costs $100,000, and the deadline is next week. Daisy accepts. They marry the same day. Contract rules: private, no personal life, one year then disappear.
Daisy's first day at Sterling Global is as a janitor, a job her childhood friend Caleb helped her get. Julian has kept his identity hidden from her. Victoria and a receptionist humiliate her over a spill and a pair of ruined shoes. Julian sees the aftermath and asks who hit her. He fires the receptionist from Manhattan and bars her from finance.
Julian then offers Daisy an assistant marketing manager position, because he will not let his wife walk around in a janitor uniform. She refuses. She came to New York to earn money honestly, not take a shortcut. Julian explains that he kept his identity hidden to see what kind of person she really was. He expected her to use the Sterling name and pull favors. She showed up to mop floors instead.
Coworkers gossip that Daisy got CEO access. A coworker warns her about Victoria: Victoria is from the Vance family, old money, and grew up with Julian as childhood sweethearts. Three years ago Julian was in a terrible car accident. A mysterious girl saved him. Most people believe that girl was Victoria. So there is already someone in Julian's heart.
The one-year arrangement is meant to end with Daisy disappearing. Instead, the two fall in love after the marriage by arrangement and eventually stay together for real. The mistaken savior story around Victoria remains the tension.
