Jodi carries dragonslayer blood and an ugly birthmark. Her fiancé Paul abandons her, telling her he'd be embarrassed to be seen with her. Alone and with nowhere to go, she stumbles upon Nick, the Lord of the Burning Realm, chained and consumed by a fire curse no one could break for over a century. Her touch extinguishes the flames. He tells her she is his antidote, the first person able to touch him, and they spend a night together. She wakes up alone, convinced she was used again.

Five years later, Jodi lives in a human town as a tailor, raising her daughter Bella. She believes her other twin daughter died in infancy. Her dragonslayer bloodline has awakened, her mark faded and face transformed, leaving her unrecognizable. When Bella is kidnapped, a message reaches her: "Come home, or you will never see her again." She shifts into her dragon form and flies to Crystal Lake City.

Her ex-fiancé Paul, now Lord of the Snowy Peaks, sees her but doesn't recognize her. He tries to charm her; she rebuffs him coldly. Jodi confronts her father, Lord Forrester, and her mother, who are holding Bella. They force a deal—she must marry Nick, the Lord of the Cinderlands, in three days, or Bella will suffer. To ensure the alliance, they intend to shatter Jodi's bones with a crystal hammer and reshape her body, claiming it will make her a virgin again.

Nick arrives at the Forrester estate with his sick daughter Kathy. Melody, the woman he believes is Kathy's mother, insists Kathy is merely dreaming when the girl speaks of a sister trapped among crystals. Nick is searching for the truth behind Kathy's visions. He walks in as Jodi is being attacked, recognizes her as his betrothed, and stops the assault. Jodi blurts out that she has a five-year-old child and is not a virgin. Nick doesn't care—he only needs a marriage alliance. He tells her to bring her daughter to the wedding in the Cinderlands.

Bella escapes captivity to find her mother. Meanwhile, Kathy vanishes from the carriage.

Character Dynamics
Jodi, despised by her dragon family for her dragonslayer blood, was cast out by Paul. One night with Nick, the Lord of the Burning Realm, gave her twin daughters—then she was told the younger died. Five years later, unrecognizable, she returns for Bella and is forced to marry the same lord, who never learns she's the mother of his children. Nick, weary of his century-long curse, remains a cold pragmatist. He dotes on Kathy, believing she is his daughter with Melody, unaware the girl is Jodi's missing twin. Melody has built her position on a single lie: she claimed the older twin died at birth. Now she silences Kathy each time the child senses her sister, guarding a deception that could destroy everything. Paul, now Lord of the Snowy Peaks, is shallow and fickle, wanting only Jodi's new face. Bella breaks free to save her mother. Kathy, fragile and ignored, keeps reaching for a sister she's never met, dragging Nick straight into Jodi's orbit.
