On her daughter Lizzy's birthday, Eleanor receives a video call from Lizzy, who says she's trapped alone in a locked car under the hot sun. The call cuts off. As Eleanor desperately searches, she's met with lies and obstacles. Police are called but dismiss the report after being told Lizzy is with her father. Her husband's office turns her away. Meanwhile, Eleanor's husband Mason spends the day at an amusement park with Selene, his late best friend's widow, and her daughter Dolly, ignoring Eleanor's calls. Eleanor continues searching alone.
