Lila and Eli lose their father in a work accident after he takes on extra labor to cover Lila's tuition. Before dying, he gives them a photograph of their mother Serena and tells them to find her. Their greedy aunt and uncle then plan to sell them to human traffickers. The children overhear the plan, run away, and set out to find their mother using the address on the back of the photo. While traveling, they are tricked and trapped again, but manage to break free. Meanwhile, Serena returns to her husband's town searching for the children, only to be told by those same relatives that the kids have drowned and died.
